What to Expect

The Orthopedic Surgery Process: What To Expect

BEFORE SURGERY

Pre Admission: Once your surgeon’s office schedules your procedure at NW Surgery, you will receive a text and notification email from Simple Admit. Through this online portal you will complete all pre-admission paperwork. If your physician has notified you that your procedure has been scheduled but you did not receive a text and email from Simple Admit, please call the surgery center at 713-462-3194.

Precertification Insurance Verification: NW Surgery Center accepts most insurance policies. Our staff will verify coverage and benefits prior to your procedure. Our financial counselor will then contact you to review any patient responsibility. Each patient is required to bring their insurance card and photo ID with them on the day of surgery. Please do not hesitate to contact us at 713-462-3194 if you have any insurance questions.

DAY OF SURGERY

  • Arrival: You will be asked to arrive at least one hour before your scheduled procedure.
  • Consent: A nurse will review with you the pre-admission and consent forms that you will need to sign. If the patient is under 18 the parent or guardian must sign the forms.
  • Preoperative: You will be escorted to the preoperative area and asked to change into a patient gown, and slippers. A nurse will check your temperature, blood pressure, and pulse and start your IV.
  • Operative: Next you will move to one of our four state-of-the art operating rooms, where your surgeon and surgical team will perform your procedure.
  • Postoperative: Following your procedure you will be moved into our recovery area, where you will awake and be monitored by our nursing staff. Before you leave the center, you will be given written instructions for your care at home.
  • Exit: The time you are at the center will vary with the procedure, the surgeon, and your recovery time. The length of stay is usually a minimum of 2 hours.

AFTER SURGERY

  • Day after: A nurse from NW Surgery Center will contact you the day after your surgery to see how you are and answer any additional questions you might have. If you have any questions or concerns following your surgery, please contact NW Surgery Center or your surgeon’s office.
  • Week after: Please contact your surgeon’s office to schedule your follow up appointment.
  • Patient Care is the utmost priority of everyone at NW Surgery Center. We strive to make your stay with us as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Please take a moment and complete the survey to let us know about your stay.
